potty training is hard! funny, but hard!

so it's no secret that we're trying to potty train. we're completely in pull-ups now, and keegan knows he's wet (because they get cold when he does) and he's started to tell us after he's already gone. i wish he'd say something before he goes, but the fact that he's saying anything about it is a huge step. i will have to say that this might be the hardest part of parenting. terrible twos...whatever! potty training is the worst! i can handle hearing no, i can handle temper tantrums..."i hate you mommy" stings a bit, but i also know he doesn't understand what that means (and i also have no idea where he heard that!). granted looking back on the stories they're REALLY funny...but at the time it's like panic crisis mode! yesterday he was asking for some skittles. i told him when he goes on the potty, he can get some skittles. now i was cooking dinner at this time and not really paying too much attention since he usually just sits and plays with daddy while i cook. this time he ran out of the room, we heard flush...glug glug glug. CRAP! "what did you flush?" his reply? "ummm...dunno daddy!" so pat goes into the bathroom and i hear, "keegan, your shirt can't go in the potty!" keegan giggles, pat pulls the shirt out of the toilet, and keegan then asks in all innocent seriousness (which made me have to hold the laughter in as much as i could), "why keegan shirt wet daddy?" THAT was funny.

today...not so funny. ok, it kind of is. and i'm glad i can laugh so soon after the crisis, but again at the time i was in panic mode. keegan was playing with his laptop, and i was in the next room on the computer. he walked in the bathroom. he likes climbing on his step stool and turning the light on and off, so i didn't think much of it. then he says, poopy mommy! now i have come to realize that this simply means, "mom, i'm wet, please change me." **what's funny here is that you already know that this is NOT what was intended by his comment this time!** so i asked, "do you have to go potty?" he said, "no mommy, look! poopy!" he comes out of the bathroom with his pants around his ankles, and poop smeared all over his legs, obviously from walking around the bathroom trying to get his pants off.

AAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there is absolutely no way to do this without making it worse...he still has his shoes on! so we take the shoes off. i keep thinking of some way that this doesn't have to be so bad, and i quickly turn on the shower. i'll strip him down and give him an early shower. no problem! except i can't get his socks off because he was playing outside earlier and his socks were wet! he steps out of the poopy pull up and pants without a problem, but now we still have the socks. grrrrrrrrr. i can't lean him up against anything to pry the socks off because he'll just get poop all over whatever he leans on. i was about to just throw him in the shower with the socks on when i thought for a second...stop pulling from the toes mom and take them off from the top! success! i wipe as much of the poop off his legs as i can before i throw him in the shower hoping the whole time "please don't pee on me now!" so he got in the shower, i washed him, and life was grand. and as he got clean and the poopy colored water went down the drain, he said, "bye bye poopy!" yes honey, bye bye poopy indeed!
